Mr. Bell practices in the area of government, regulatory and criminal investigations. He is also one of the United States foremost legal experts on Section 314(b) of the USA PATRIOT Act. Mr. Bell represents clients on a variety of matters involving white collar crimes and business-related investigations. As part of his practice, he routinely represents Fortune 500 companies facing federal and state grand jury investigations.  Prior to joining McGuireWoods, Mr. Bell’s public sector experience includes services as first assistant U.S. Attorney; assistant U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina; and assistant U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina. He was also the Republican Nominee for the U.S. House of Representatives, North Carolina Fifth Congressional District, in 1990. Mr. Bell prosecuted one of the biggest terrorist financing cases in US history, which involved numerous specified unlawful activities (SUAs), under the umbrella of RICO legislation.
