Yesenia Armijo Mendez attended Southern Methodist University and went on to attend American University in Washington D.C. Through her banking sector background, Yesenia went on to work at the U.S. Department of the Treasury in the Office of Terrorism and Financial Intelligence, where she worked on various policy projects. Her experience at the Treasury Department led to a Regulatory Policy Specialist position with the Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN). There she specialized in interpreting and analyzing the Bank Secrecy Act (BSA). She worked as the Assistant Vice President for BSA Compliance at BBVA Bancomer Houston Agency; she was responsible for the institution’s BSA Compliance Program. She is currently employed by MoneyGram International; she manages the Americas Financial Intelligence Unit. Yesenia is the Chair for the Gulf Coast AML Forum, a local professional conference focused on compliance education and fostering partnership amongst the private and public sector.
